Every workout enthusiast has heard of the term “CrossFit” here in Singapore. It’s not surprising since CrossFit is one of the most misunderstood fitness programs in the world! Some people are afraid of it, while others admire it. For me, however, doing CrossFit is something I’ll never forget.

 

I started doing CrossFit in Singapore in 2018 when I wanted to improve my flexibility and endurance. My basic routine wasn’t enough to strengthen my muscle mass, so I had to look towards other strategies to give me what I need. Thus, I chose CrossFit as my go-to workout routine.

 

Like everyone else, I was terrified of CrossFit. I’ve heard of numerous stories regarding the popular training program, and how it’s dangerous, even for the most experienced bodybuilders. However, as I dived deeper into the myths surrounding CrossFit, I discovered that it wasn’t as terrible as it seems.

 

It turns out that CrossFit is just as dangerous as any other workout routine. It’s risky, but it’s also rewarding. That’s why if you’re planning to do CrossFit, you should set your expectations low and do your research.

 

I did my research on CrossFit as well so I could discover more about its risks, benefits, and effects on the body. But even after reading countless textbooks and guides, I never understood the power of CrossFit until I tried it out myself.

 

Why is CrossFit something you should try out? More importantly, what are some of the risks you must avoid?

 

THE BENEFITS

The most significant change I’ve noticed with my body is that I gained immense strength after months of intense training. It began when I trained for three months. During this period, I was relatively new to the subject of CrossFit, so I had no clue about its benefits for my physique.

 

While lifting weights in a gym near Pasir Panjang, I noticed that I could handle heavy objects for a longer period of time. I surprised myself to see how far I’ve been through, even though I only underwent three months of training at the time.

 

It was clear that CrossFit has helped me improve my overall strength and endurance. I felt stronger and more resilient to pain, all thanks to consistent CrossFit training.

 

Besides physical strength, I also felt more flexible when it came to moving my joints. Not to mention, I could hold my breath for longer periods, which also improved my ability to swim longer distances.

 

In short, CrossFit is an excellent fitness program if you plan to improve your physical strength and endurance. Both beginners and veterans should try CrossFit! I highly recommend it.

 

However, while the rewards are worth it, there are a few risks you must avoid as well. CrossFit may not be as dangerous as most people say, but if you’re not careful, you could stretch a few muscles or break some bones in the process!

 

THE RISKS

First off, I never encountered any injuries while I was training, and it’s all thanks to my instructor who helped me set my limitations. CrossFit is dangerous, but only if your body can’t handle the intensity of training. The good news is that there are different levels of CrossFit training in terms of progression.

 

Of course, I had to start with the beginning. The training was easy at first, but because it should. Beginners like myself had to learn the ropes until you could handle the level of stress in the advanced stages of training.

 

This is when the risks of CrossFit come into play. Some of the injuries that you might encounter (if you’re not careful) include knee injuries, lower back pain, Achilles tendonitis, and tennis elbow.

 

Fortunately, you’ll put yourself at risk with these common injuries if you push yourself to the limit. That’s why it’s essential for beginners to train with a coach who will guide them along the way. Your trainer will serve as a mentor who can prevent you from injuring yourself, and teach you how to perfect your form.

 

Not to mention, if you possess a pre-existing medical condition, you might want to talk to your doctor first. Your body could be too fragile to engage in an intense training session like CrossFit. Unless your doctor says it’s safe, I highly recommend you to stay away from CrossFit and try other programs instead.

 

I’m glad I tried doing CrossFit for the past two years. I stopped training for a while due to the pandemic, but once Singapore is ready to go, then I’m going to continue my progress as soon as possible.
