In recent years, yoga has been gaining popularity in China. Here in Singapore, it is no different. I am seeing more and more Singaporeans getting into yoga, so I did the same and joined some Chinese yoga for beginners!
Everyone probably knows what yoga is, or at least a vague definition of it. Before I enrolled in a Chinese yoga class, I already understood that yoga was a set of exercises that people of all ages can experience. However, what I didn’t know was that yoga was more than just that.
There’s a reason why many people consider yoga as a spiritual experience. In reality, yoga can improve your physical and mental well-being. While yoga consists of exercises focused on flexibility and endurance, you can feel a soothing and enlightening sensation as you cleanse your mind of stress.
After participating in a Chinese yoga class, my perception of yoga changed altogether. I expected a typical workout session, but what I got was something even better. Yoga helped me change as a person--physically, mentally, and most importantly, spiritually.
Thanks to my Chinese yoga instructor, I learned a lot of things that changed my life for the better! Here’s how yoga helped me physically, mentally, and spiritually.
1. THE PHYSICAL BENEFITS
First, I would like to start with the obvious. The foundation of yoga is its spiritual and mental benefits, but the best part about it is improving your physical health. Some workout routines are strenuous and intense. But for yoga, the exercises can be quite relaxing and soothing.
The first day I joined a Chinese yoga class was one of the most memorable parts of the entire experience. All of my misconceptions of yoga vanished as soon as the Chinese yoga instructor explained the fundamentals. She told us how yoga is the perfect balance between exercise and relaxation.
I didn’t believe the Chinese yoga instructor at first, but as soon as we progressed through training, my disbeliefs shattered into oblivion! Yoga was as relaxing as it is physically engaging. I felt my body getting stronger after every yoga session, despite being super exhausted all the time!
My goal was to improve my flexibility and endurance. Fortunately, my Chinese yoga instructor was more than happy to help me reach my goals. She gave me a list of exercises to improve my flexibility and ability to withstand long and tiring activities.
2. THE KEY TO REDUCING STRESS
Because of COVID-19, I had to work from home, along with the rest of the company. At first, I felt a little bit relieved since COVID-19 is a threat to our health, so working at home would be much safer. But as time progressed, I found that some tasks are harder to accomplish without someone to assist me in person. As a result, I found myself stressed because of work more than ever before.
Fortunately, joining a Chinese yoga class was the perfect way to reduce stress and escape from the everyday horrors of life. Whenever I was feeling down and tired, I would resort to yoga and meditation. The experience is unlike anything I have ever done before.
Yoga involves a lot of light to moderate exercises that can help you improve your breathing and mobility. Most importantly, these exercises allow you to reduce stress, which is something us hardworking adults need today.
3. A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING
Meditating is the best part of Chinese yoga for beginners. I was not a spiritual person, but I learned how meditating could really make yourself feel a lot more whole as a person.
There were times that I would stare blankly at the TV with nothing on the screen. At that moment, I felt lost and confused. However, as I joined a Chinese yoga class, my life became an uphill battle from there.
Nevertheless, I was persistent in my journey to happiness with the help of my Chinese yoga teacher. Thanks to her teachings and expertise, I was able to go up against my fears of isolation and dread. I feel complete, and I have my Chinese yoga instructor to thank for that.
Enrolling in a Chinese yoga class was the best decision I have ever made as of late. Life was becoming dreadful as time went on, but yoga pushed me to become better.
If you are struggling with everyday stress, maybe you can do what I did and consider participating in Chinese yoga for beginners. It is easy, fun, and most importantly, educational. All you need to do is find a trained Chinese yoga instructor who can help you reach your goals.
As for my preferred Chinese yoga teacher, I stumbled upon her resume online when I visited this website called Yoga Mandola. Try to get in touch with Yoga Mandala if you want to go under the same level of training as I did!
