Breast cancer is one of the health conditions that some people experience. Cancer forms in the cells of the breast and encountered by both men and women. These are the things you need to know before you undergo breast cancer treatment in Singapore:

1. TYPES

As time goes by, cancer treatments get better and improved. But to know the correct breast cancer treatment, you need to determine the type of breast cancer that a person has.

Some breast cancer types are ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS), and angiosarcoma.

2. RISKS

Breast cancer also has risks. But note that if you have one of these risks, it does not mean that you will get cancer or develop any.

Some of the risks are family history, age, obesity, and radiation exposure.

3. TREATMENTS

Breast cancer treatment in Singapore might be done in different ways depending on the situation of the patient. Some of the known therapies are hormone therapy, chemotherapy, stereotactic radiosurgery, and radiation therapy.

Hormone blocking therapy averts sensitive breast cancer from returning. Chemotherapy kills cancer cells by using drugs – an IV or pills. The risk of doing this is that it can affect some healthy cells or harm them.

Stereotactic radiosurgery is a therapy without the need of undergoing surgery. It treats small tumours and functional abnormalities. Unlike chemotherapy, it would not harm the healthy cells.

Radiotherapy kills cancer cells and tumours through low doses of radiation. It can only happen a month after the surgery. Radiotherapy cost in Singapore is around $25,000 up to $30,000.

4. SIDE EFFECTS OF THE TREATMENTS

The treatments have side effects. Some of it goes away right after the therapy, but others still appear at a later time. Common side effects are fatigue, weight change, hair loss, arm swelling, and nausea.
