Many people say ignorance is bliss, but that is not always the case. People who get diagnosed with breast cancer and need treatment in Singapore often suffer from stress and anxiety.
To not let that happen to you, you should at least know what you can expect after getting SBRT or stereotactic body radiotherapy. Here are some of them.
- FATIGUE.
Indeed. That is why after 30 minutes to an hour of radiation therapy, the oncologist in Singapore will advise you to go home and rest. They will most likely ask you to file a leave from work since the fatigue of one session can last for six weeks or more.
2.NAUSEA.
Besides feeling tired, you would also feel nauseous to the point where you will vomit. To relieve that, the radiation doctor in Singapore will ask you to take an anti-nausea drug. Make sure to drink that whenever you feel like vomiting after the procedure.
3.SWELLING.
But only at the radiation site, and the swelling will somehow subside after a few hours of rest. The oncologist will also prescribe you non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce the swelling.
4.REDNESS.
This one would look like you have a sunburn on the treated area. But that is not all. In rare cases, the redness could get darker, which can be a bit painful.
5.HAIR LOSS.
Like other breast cancer treatments, you would also experience hair loss in SBRT but mostly in targeted areas.
6.LOW BLOOD COUNT.
Out of all the side effects mentioned, this one is rarest to happen. When the blood count becomes low, the body would have trouble fighting infection and preventing it from bleeding. That is why a radiation doctor often conducts blood tests to monitor the blood count in the body.
