Becoming a cancer patient is never easy. Every second counts, and to fight against this life-threatening disease, one must undergo surgery, medicals, and several sessions of radiation therapy in Singapore.

And before you go to Mount Elizabeth and seek help from a radiation doctor, you have to understand our radiation therapy options. Here are just a few below.

1. 3D Conformal Radiation Therapy

This radiation therapy in Singapore releases beams of the exact shape and size of the tumour, which helps lower the radiation exposure of the healthy tissues.

OFTEN USED FOR:  brain cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, and prostate cancer.

 2. Brachytherapy

It involves inserting tiny radioactive material into the body to eliminate cancer cells. To do this, a radiation oncologist in Singapore will use a particular type of needle or catheter.

OFTEN USED FOR: prostate, cervical, endometrial, vaginal, and breast cancers.

3. Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT)

A radiation doctor in Singapore opts for this option to track where the tumour is moving in the body. In other words, they implanted markers during radiation therapy.

OFTEN USED FOR:  lungs, liver, pancreas and prostate gland, and areas with the tumour near the critical organs and tissues.

4. Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)

A session of this radiation therapy involves delivering multiple radiation beams directly to the tumour area. Doing so helps minimise affecting the normal, healthy tissues.

OFTEN USED FOR:  gastrointestinal, prostate cancer, head and neck cancers, brain, and lung cancers.

5. Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT)

As the name suggests, the radiation oncologist in Singapore uses this option during surgery to expose where the tumour is so they can quickly eliminate it.

OFTEN USED FOR: gastrointestinal and breast cancers.
